How to Use the Ecoegg Laundry Egg

What is the Ecoegg Laundry Egg?

Let's first find out what the Ecoegg Laundry Egg is before learning how to use it.

The Ecoegg Laundry Egg is an eco-friendly solution from the UK that's changing how we do laundry. It's made with British innovation to reduce our environmental impact and offer an effective alternative to regular laundry detergents.

This unique laundry egg is a refillable device designed to replace disposable plastic detergent bottles, helping reduce plastic waste. What makes the Ecoegg special is its innovative design and environmentally friendly formula. The egg-shaped device contains mineral pellets that, when mixed with water during the laundry cycle, create a powerful cleaning solution. This approach not only gives excellent cleaning results but also eliminates harmful chemicals found in traditional detergents from the laundry process.

These step by step instructions will help show you how simple it is to use the laundry egg. This can also be found in the ‘Directions for Use’ leaflet (in the box) when you buy this product.

Now, are you ready to learn how to use the Ecoegg laundry egg?

Let's get to it.

What’s in the box?

  1. A very detailed instruction leaflet on how to fill and use your Ecoegg
  2. An empty recyclable plastic egg (colour is depending on the fragrance you choose)
  3. 3 x packets of white mineral pellets
  4. 1 x packet of dark coloured tourmaline ceramic pellets

How to Fill the Laundry Egg for the First Time

Step 1

how to open your ecoegg laundry egg
To open the egg, grip each half. Push the button in and twist the bottom half in the opposite direction of the arrow until the two triangles line up.

Step 2

Separate the two halves of the egg.

Step 3

Stand the larger half on a flat surface. Empty 3 x packs of the white mineral pellets and the 1 x pack of dark coloured tourmaline pellets into it.

Please note that if you're topping up, our refill pellets box has only 1 x tourmaline pellets and 2 x white mineral pellets.

Step 4

Place the smaller half on top, aligning triangles and twisting together until the button clicks into place.

Step 5

Ensure a firm fit, with the button in place and the bottom triangle facing the 'dot.'

Step 6

Simply pop your laundry egg into your machine and run your wash cycle.

Refilling your Ecoegg

After 70 washes

You will need to top up the white mineral pellets (1 packet at a time) after approximately each 70 washes (approximately every 2 months – depending how often you wash). A good estimate is when you notice the pellets have shrunk half their size then you know it’s a good time to top up. The dark coloured tourmaline pellets last more than 70 washes and do not require refilling.

If you find that your dark tourmaline pellets have run out, you can buy them separately here

Using your Ecoegg Laundry Egg

Detailed instructions can be read from the leaflet provided but I thought this is worth repeating. The Ecoegg needs sufficient water to work so it is best not to use a reduced water setting on your washing machine. I wanted to experiment so I tried putting on Eco wash but it doesn’t clean as well. So please follow the instructions on the leaflet. When I did not use the reduced water setting, I found that the laundry egg works very well indeed.

Do Not Overload

Another one worth mentioning is DO NOT OVERLOAD the machine. The Ecoegg requires room to circulate in the drum. Fill your laundry about 3/4 of the way and leave about 1/4 of room for the laundry egg – as a guide.

Essential Oils

If you want extra fragrance on your clothes, I used 5-7 drops of pure essential oil in the ‘fabric conditioner compartment’ (Lemon/Orange/Tea Tree/ Eucalyptus/Lavender) and it is really quite aromatic.

Brighter & Cleaner

I found my clothes to be brighter too since using the Ecoegg laundry egg and I am still amazed how well it cleans my clothes.

Although the laundry egg does general everyday cleaning well, but for tougher stains, I suggest using an eco-friendly stain remover first before the actual wash. Follow the instructions of your stain remover if you have one and wash as normal with your laundry egg.

I was sceptical re,eco egg as I’m fussy about my laundry, but I can honestly say my washing is clean and soft, specially my white cotton bedding.. I have recommended eco egg to my friends and family, saves on plastic use and space, thanks from a 85yr old sceptic
